Given the state of the United States healthcare system, it is no wonder that many claimants do not have insurance or the financial means to see a doctor for their disabling health condition. With that said, the Social Security Administration will not approve disability benefits for claimants that do have sufficient evidence to support their claim that they are unable to work.
Claimants who do not have the money to consistently see a doctor should systematically begin to build their medical records either by finding free clinics to attend or by periodically visiting urgent care centers or minor emergency centers.
If the Social Security Administration does not have enough medical evidence to make a decision for a claimant they will send them to a consultative medical examiner who will perform a cursory mental or physical health review and make a disability determination.
While certain claimants may benefit from the consultation examination, most claimants will not. Consultation examiners are not a very good substitute for having an ongoing relationship with a doctor who is sympathetic to your situation.
