Earned Income Exclusion for Students

Part of the 41 percent benefit increase Social Security implemented for 2006 is the Student Earned Income Exclusion for SSI. The maximum amount a blind or disabled child who is a college, university or technical school student can earn now is $1,410.00 per month, but not more than $5,670.00 for 2005. In 2006, the Student Earned Income Exclusion will increase to $1,460 per month, but not more than $5,910 for 2006. These earnings will not be counted against his or her Supplemental Security Income Benefits.
