Understanding SSI and SSDI Disability Benefits Insurance in Charlotte

In This Section:

Disabled workers may qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) in Charlotte if they have worked jobs covered by Social Security and paid enough in payroll taxes to be considered "insured" by the Social Security Administration.

Not all Charlotte workers will qualify for SSDI. Social Security Disability Insurance in Charlotte is only offered to workers who are considered disabled by the Social Security Administration and who are unable to work for at least 12 continuous months due to a severe physical or mental health condition.

SSDI in Charlotte is only paid to workers who have paid employment taxes and have earned 20-40 work credits over the course of their employment. The amount of work credits needed to be insured will vary by age at the time of disability. Most full-time workers can earn 4 work credits per year.

Social Security Disability Insurance in Charlotte provides wage replacement benefits to the primary wage earners, but it can also be paid to widows, children, widowers, and disabled adults if they were disabled before they turned 22. Charlotte SSDI recipients may also qualify for medical coverage through Medicare 24 months after the onset date of their disability.

What if a claimant has not worked, has worked but not paid taxes, or has worked in the home? Unfortunately, these workers will not qualify for SSDI in Charlotte. The Federal Government does, however, offer another monthly benefit payment for claimants who are blind, aged (65 years or older) or disabled whose resources and income are very limited. Charlotte Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claimants may also be eligible for Medicaid, in most states, at the time of approval.
