What is Compassionate Allowance Initiative?
Definition of Compassionate Allowance Initiative
The Social Security Administration has developed the Compassionate Allowance List (CAL) to provide Social Security Disability benefits quickly to Social Security disability claimants whose mental or physical health condition is so severe that it is obvious they will be determined disabled by the Social Security Administration.
In 2011, the Commissioner of the SSA announced that the Social Security Administration would add another 12 new conditions to their CAL list. As of 2011, there are 100 conditions on the Compassionate Allowance list. The goal of the Compassionate Allowance initiatives is to process Social Security Disability benefits within days instead of months and get disability benefits paid to disabled claimants as soon as possible.
