What is Privacy Act?

Definition of Privacy Act

The Privacy Act was established in 1974 and controls the methods the Federal government may use to collect, use, and disseminate information. The Privacy Act allows a Social Security Disability claimant to review and request medical records or other sources of evidence which have been used to make a claimant's disability determination. If the Social Security Administration determines the information may be detrimental to the Social Security Disability claimant they may only release the information to a designated medical health representative.
