What is Social Security Administration?

Definition of Social Security Administration

The Social Security Administration is a federal agency of the United States government that manages several social programs including: Social Security Disability Insurance, Supplemental Security Income and Retirement and Survivor benefits. Most Social Security programs are financed through Social Security employment taxes. The Social Security Administration, headquartered in Maryland, includes 10 regional offices and approximately 1300 field offices located throughout the United States. Social Security was created as part of Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal program and started with the signing of the Social Security Act of 1935.
